Hot Jazz Band

The Hot Jazz Band authentically represents the wonderful world of American music, plays the melodies of the 1920’s, ’30s, ’40s called the “Jazz Era” and the popular Hungarian film music from the same period. This music evokes great artists such as Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Bing Crosby, and famous Hungarian movie stars including Katalin Karády, Pál Kalmár, Gyula Kabos and composers like Rezső Seress, Szabolcs Fényes, Alfréd Márkus, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller…

Hungary’s most successful jazz band has won four international and two national competitions, out of which the most outstanding was the New Orleans Jazz Competition in France in 1995, where 54 bands participated. They have been invited six times to take part in the Sacramento Jubilee (CA, USA), the world’s largest annual Traditional Jazz festival. The Hot Jazz Band has won two eMeRTon prizes, awarded by the Hungarian State Radio, the Líra prize and the Louis Armstrong Memorial prize in Hungary. The band has released 13 CDs since it was founded. In 2015, the band received its country’s highest state honours, the Kossuth Prize.

The Hot Jazz Band takes part in outstanding national festivals and events. They have participated in numerous international festivals in Lyon, Ried, Regensburg, Bratislava, Marciac, Montlouis, Bussum, Cluj, Dresden, Varazze, Policka, Osterode, Gronau, Helsinki, Straden, Varasdin, Tallin, Zürich, Szczavnicza, Carei, Vienna, Anif, Breda, Silkeborg, Sacramento, Lake Tahoe (USA), Silkeborg, Marckolsheim, Istambul, London, Monte Carlo, Corsica, Katowice, Shanghai, Ningbo.

They have had the opportunity to play with great musicians such as: Cynthia Sayer, Mike Vax, Tom Kirkpatrick, Peter Ecklund, Joe Muranyi (Louis Armstrong’s All Stars), Leroy Jones, Wynton Marsalis, George Probert, Bill Allred, Tom Saunders, Allan Vaché, Johnny Varro, Howard Alden, Jake Hanna, Randy Reinhardt, John Sharidan, Lee Floyd (USA); Acker Bilk, Kenny Ball (UK); Marcel Zanini, Irakli, Alain Bouchet, Daniel Huck, Marc Laferriére, Marc Fosset (Stéphane Grappelli Trio) Daniel Barda (F); Tom Stuip (NL); Theis Jensen (DK); Oscar Klein (CH); Stjepko Gut (YU) Antti Sarpila (SF) Ken Aoki (JPN).
